McDonald’s to go – convenient format but with convenience pricing too
Working not far from McDonald’s new take-away only concept store, simply called “to go” on Fleet Street, I had taken a healthy interest in the media coverage about the new format. So in many ways I knew what to expect. I was aware that it would not have any seating, or toilets, and that product ordering and payment would be via wall-mounted slimline touchscreen kiosks only. I had also read that that there would be a reduced menu within a reduced size outlet. What I had not expected is that there would be a price premium to pay.

New Mamago logo revealed
The logo for The Restaurant Group’s spin-off Mamago has been unveiled, along with teasers of the new menu. The Mamago logo will use the same font as the original Wagamama logo, as well as the familiar red and white colour scheme, plus its signature single red star. Meanwhile the menu, specifically designed for the spinoff, looks set to include wraps packed with Pan-Asian ingredients and fruit pots.

Restaurants hit by ‘turbulent times’
Restaurant numbers have dropped for the sixth quarter in a row according to the latest Market Growth Monitor from CGA and AlixPartners, with Italian restaurants hit hardest. Overall there was a 3.4% drop in restaurant numbers in the 12 months to June 2019, meaning an average rate of 18 net closures a week.
