Eat Out to Help Out a billion pound bonanza

    2020-08-28T06:56:00Z

Eat Out to Help Out has worked better than expected. With four days left of the scheme, 64 million meals have been ‘sold’ with 84,000 restaurants taking part, many of whom are yet to claim their money back meaning the final number of discounted meals will be far higher. Particularly as the scheme has become more popular as the weeks have gone on. Week one hit 10 million meals, in week two the total tripled to over 30 million. So it’s on a trajectory to hit, or even exceed, 100 million meals. If all of those claim back the maximum £10, Rishi could be looking at settling up a billion-pound bill, a bit like when you order lots of sides in Wagamama.

Karen Jones: Why is it so important that hospitality wholeheartedly supports NHS Test and Trace?

    2020-08-28T06:55:00Z

So it’s a Bank Holiday weekend, pay day for many and the last EOTHO on Bank Holiday Monday. Many of our restaurants and pubs across the UK will be very busy and it seems an opportune moment to remind ourselves of the vital importance of all our places fully supporting NHS Test and Trace. Why is it so important that hospitality wholeheartedly supports NHS Test and Trace? Because hospitality offers safe spaces for people to enjoy being with friends and family. Because we are often at the centre of our communities and high streets. We have a real responsibility to keep our customers, our teams and our communities safe and well. NHS Test and Trace is a powerful way to do just that: collecting and providing the information to help break the chain of transmission and control the virus.

Wagamama announces double closure following business review

    2020-07-21T14:06:00Z

Wagamama is to permanently close two of its London sites, including its ‘noodle lab’ in Soho. The pan-Asian chain, which is owned by The Restaurant Group (TRG), says it made the decision following a review of the company’s portfolio brought about by a ‘marked shift’ in customer demand caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. As a result of the review, it has been decided that Wagamama’s Mansion House restaurant, as well as its ‘noodle lab’ test kitchen on Dean Street, are no longer economically viable, and both sites have been closed.
