Greggs, the high street sandwich chain, has announced the resignation of Sir Ian Gibson, the chairman-elect of Morrison Supermarkets, as a non-executive director with effect from 29 February. Greggs said that Gibson, who is expected to replace Sir Ken Morrison as chairman of the supermarket chain later this year, had stepped down from the board of Greggs in anticipation of his increasing commitments at Morrisons. Derek Netherton, chairman of Greggs, said: “The board has accepted Ian's resignation with great regret, but recognises that it is inevitable in the light of his growing time commitments elsewhere. “We are most grateful to him for his wise advice and assistance through a period in which we have completed a comprehensive business review and embarked on a process of significant change in both our management structure and our approach to meeting our customers' needs and aspirations.”
