Vianet chief executive Stewart Darling has told MCA that the twin focuses for the group’s leisure division going into H2 are mobile technology and growth within managed pubs.

The group updated the market on its H1 results yesterday, and Darling insisted that the company was yet to see any impact of Brexit.

He said the implementation of the pubs code had also had a limited effect so far.

He said: “Many of our customers have got ahead of the curve in terms of the pubs code, in terms of the move towards alternative operating models. Our challenge is to make sure we have the relevant tools to support that move.

He said the key to that was the further extension of the group’s iDraught technology.

He said: “iDraught takes you much more into the retailing space. As we see the move to franchised and pseudo-managed that technology is aligned. Needs to be part of the fit-out when a pub gets converted.”

On the key areas for growth going forward, he said: “There’s a real focus on managed and mobile technology. We know our customers need data on the go and we are working to provide that.”
