Laboratory tests have shown that a can of cat food contains less than a third the fat in a McDonald's Big Mac meal or a Pizza hut pizza.
Levels of salt and sugar in dog and cat food were also often lower than in fast food human meals.
One human tester even reported that a spoonful of a leading dog meat tasted "more meaty" than a Ginster's Cornish Pastie.
