InBev is backing former WestLB banker Robin Saunders to mount a £3bn bid for Spirit Group.
She is believed to be one of three remaining bidders.
The others are reported to be Punch Taverns and RobertTchenguiz. Macquarie is thought to be monitoring progress. Tchenguiz is believed to have recruited Ian Payne, former chief executive of the Laurel Pub Company, as adviser.
InBev is expected to provide a substantial loan in return for a beer supply contract.
The deadline for final bids has been put back by a fortnight to November 21
