But also, and more critically, I was keener to see some something new and surprising.

Pret’s chief customer officer resigns
Pret’s chief customer officer, Barnaby Dawe, has resigned and will leave the business at the end of the year. Dawe, who joined Pret in 2018, plans to return to work in media and ecommerce where he worked at Harper Collins, Sky, The Sun, The Times and Channel 4.

Pret, TGI Fridays and Mitchells & Butlers have all teamed up with a new smartphone app to help people with allergies avoid food which could trigger them. Profits down at Pret A Manger but sales up
Pre-tax profits at Pret fell from £64.9m to £48.8m for the year ending 3 January 2019, a drop of 25%. However, sales were up 12% to £710m compared to £636.7m the year before. The business said Pret planned to continue delivering consistent like for like growth by focusing on innovating its menu, growth of day-parts, increased brand awareness, operations and expansion.
