Whole Foods Market, the upscale food retailer founded by John Mackey, is to open its second store in London - in Richmond. The US group is to open a 20,000sq ft store in George Street on a site formerly operated by the Uniqlo clothing retailer. The two-floor site - about a quarter of the size of its London flagship in Kensington - will open in 2013. Whole Foods, which is yet to hot profitability in the UK, is also planning to open a store in Glasgow. Announcing the opening, Mackey said: "When we opened our Kensington store, pretty soon after that the economy collapsed, so our timing wasn't great. But we've weathered that." The Richmond store is also expected to feature space devoted to foodservice. The group operates a number of eateries within its Kensington location.
