Amazon has invested in invested in SevenRooms, a hospitality start-up that specializes in restaurant software.
The investment, through Amazon’s Alexa Fund, is its first into a company that runs restaurant operations, and aims to take Alexa’s use out of home and into the workplace and other environments.
Paul Bernard, director of the Alexa Fund at Amazon, said: “In the restaurant industry, specifically, we see an opportunity for voice technology to help workers reduce friction, make smarter decisions, and deliver more personalized guest experiences.”
Alexa and SevenRoom’s dining-room technology will be integrated, and anyone with an Alexa-enabled device will be able to use it to make a reservation with any restaurant that is a SevenRooms client, which currently operates in the US.
SevenRooms’ technology remembers customers and their preferences, such as favourites and allergies.
