Fruit flies are being used by scientists to discover why some human bar flies can hold their drink better than others.
The Sussex Centre for Research into Alcohol and Alcoholism and Drug Addiction at Sussex University, has been given a £500,000 government grant to investigate the genetic causes of alcoholism.
The research will look at how alcohol affects particular genes in fruit flies, corresponding to genes which perform similar biological functions in humans.
