The future of David Grant, managing director of Moorhouse’s Brewery, remains uncertain with the company saying he is currently on extended leave.

A spokesman for the company could not confirm if Grant, who has been in his role since 2001, had left the company but said: “At the present time we don’t know when he is returning to work.”

December 2015 saw Moorhouse’s sales dip for the first time in several years with the extreme weather in the north of England exacerbating an already challenging market-place.

However, throughout the year revenue had grown 6% with Halloween sales up 7%.

Grant had repeatedly called for the Government to reassess progressive beer duty, which he said was impacting on the competitiveness of brewers of a similar size to Moorhouse’s.

A further statement on Grant’s future is expected today.
