Specialty coffee supplier Cru Kafe has turned to crowdfunding to enable to raise £300k towards its next phase of growth.

The coffee in a capsule company is raising money through Seedrs to embark on print media and TV campaigns to boost sales.

Restaurateur and chef John Quilter founded the company with entrepreneur Colin Pyle and Bodil Blain to challenge the ethics of other coffee suppliers particularly in the coffee capsule market.

Quilter said: “Here at CRU we’re thrilled to be rolling out what we believe to be the best way to enjoy the finest quality ‘home brew’ coffee available. We firmly believe that taste should not be sacrificed in the name of convenience. In particular we have always felt that the entire pre-packaged coffee pod process could be done in a more thoughtful and earth friendly way, which is why we use a fully recyclable pod to house our exceptional blend.”

In the UK CRU Kafe is stocked at retail outlets including Harrods, Partridges, Whole Foods, Jamie Oliver’s Recipease and the Grocer (Notting Hill & Chelsea) as well as online at Ocado.

CRU Kafe currently distributes to The UAE, Kuwait, Ireland and Norway.
