Filipino fast food chain Jollibee is understood to have lined up a site in Leicester, which is is looking to make its “flagship brand in the Midlands”.

The brand, which specialises in fried chicken, has submitted plans to Leicester City Council for the site of the former Select clothing shop in Haymarket Towers, in Humberstone Gate, according to Leicestershire Live.

The company operates more than 1,000 restaurants worldwide, and opened its first UK site earlier last year in Earl’s Court. It has also lined up another site in Liverpool, at the former Lush store on Whitechapel, and has previously shared ambitions to open in Manchester and Birmingham as part of its plan to open 25 UK restaurants within five years.

Ernesto Tanmantiong, president of the fast food group, has previously said it is aiming to become one of the world’s five biggest restaurant operators by 2025.
