Handmade Burger Co, the Sargeant Partnership-owned group, has confirmed it is to open at The Old Still in Queensgate, Peterborough.

The 22-strong group’s new 3,942sq ft restaurant, set across two floors in The Old Still in Queensgate’s Westgate Arcade, takes to eight the number of brands to have committed to Queensgate in the first year of Invesco’s ownership and Lend Lease’s asset management of the centre.

Handmade will open this spring and the restaurant will be only its second in the region. It has also lined up openings in Birmingham’s Grand Central scheme, Southampton’s West Quay development and the new £50m West Central scheme in Bournemouth.

The company, which is led by Mark and Chris Sargeant, is looking to open five sites in total this year.

Chris Sargeant said: “Queensgate is a great new location for Handmade Burger Co.  The centre has a high quality mix, has no comparable competition, and is proactively managed to attract more visitors.  Queensgate is another key step in the expansion of our brand.

“We are so proud to have secured such an historic location.  Our plans for The Old Still include maintaining the charm, look and feel of this very much loved pub.  We are looking at bringing The Old Still back to life by creating something special for the people of Peterborough to be proud of.”

Guy Thomas, head of Retail Leasing at Lend Lease, said: “Together with the other additions, we have made a significant amount of progress in the last 12 months repositioning Queensgate, and Peterborough with it, as a major regional destination for leading brands.”

DTZ and CBRE acted for Queensgate.
