Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK), the Capricorn Ventures-backed group, has announced plans to reach 100 restaurants by 2018 including 30 new sites in the next three years.

As previously revealed in M&C Report the next restaurants to open will be at Intu shopping centre in Watford in December; at Glasgow in December; followed by Swindon in January and Bromley later in the spring.

The 62-strong group has also secured a listed-property in Canterbury’s St Peters Street for an opening next Easter. It has signed on units in Newport’s Queensbury Scheme, Stoke’s intu development and at L&G’s development Bracknell.

Meanwhile the group has invested more than £3m in restaurant refurbishments which has seen 13 restaurants being remodeled in the past year. The group said it is already seeing a return on this investment.

Alasdair Murdoch, chief executive, said: “Since opening the first Gourmet Burger Kitchen in Battersea back in 2001, both the GBK brand and the UK burger category have seen significant growth. Customer appetite for premium burgers is stronger than ever before. We have always been proud to serve up a great variety of crafted gourmet burgers to our customers and we look forward to further growing our brand presence in new locations across the UK.”
