Upham Pub Company, the new venture launched earlier this year by Front Page Pubs co-founder Chris Phillips and David Butcher, former chief executive of Powder Train, has secured its second site, The Spinnaker Inn

The company, which is the sister of Upham Brewery, opened its first site the Winning Post near Windsor in May and plans to invest £500k upgrading the Spinnaker Inn before re-opening pub this November.

It plans to add a further freehold site in and around Hampshire over the coming year.

Butcher, the managing director of the Upham Pub Company, told the Western Wards Gazette: “We’re looking to completely refurbish the pub. We’re still finalising the plans at the moment but the objective will be to create a contemporary place, great to meet, eat food and sleep. We will be changing it from the more traditional pub it is now to a contemporary one. We’re looking through designs at the moment.”

Phillips, who is chief executive of the new venture, sold the five-strong London-based Front Page Pubs to Food & Fuel, the company operated by former Spirit Group boss Karen Jones, in July 2007 for an undisclosed sum.

Butcher left Powder Train, which operates five freeholds across the South East including two in partnership with Marco Pierre White, earlier this year.
