Tokyo Industries, the late-night venue operator, is launching an “anti-concept” restaurant on the former site of Halo nightclub at Leeds University as part of a roll-out programme to other university sites.

Get Baked, which opens tonight, will serve dirty burgers and deserts with an “under the counter drinks menu” in an 1820s church.

“We’ve been relatively late to the food market but we found some genius food partners in Get Baked and we’ve quite a fast track plan to roll this out through Student areas - we’re already holding sites in Manchester’s Fallowfield & Newcastle,” said Aaron Mellor who leads the group.

“Get Baked really is phase one of a much bigger project for the Halo site which, when revealed in September, will essentially become the coolest student union you’ve never seen.”

Following the purchase of Ultimate Leisure in 2014, Tokyo Industries operates four sites in Newcastle, one in Durham, one in Leeds and Huddersfield. The Leeds Halo site is the second from the acquisition to be refurbished and reopened after the Newcastle Bier Keller at City Vaults which reopened in December 2014.
