Richard Shepherd, owner of Shepherd’s restaurant, in Westminster, central London, is threatening to sue The Sunday Telegraph for libel after a damning review by Matthew Norman, restaurant critic of The Sunday Telegraph Magazine. Norman did not like the restaurant much, peppering his review with phrases such as “among the very worst restaurants in Christendom” and “meals of crescendoing monstrosity”. No British restaurant has ever successfully sued a food critic for libel but Shepherd’s solicitors, Wedlake Bell, said Norman made “wrong, unfair and defamatory allegations”.
