Scottish & Newcastle Pub Enterprises, the tenanted pub division of the brewing giant, is launching a new brand, Village Inn, with 20 sites planned for 2002/3.

The brand description is "True village local found in relatively affluent rural or suburban village areas," and ideal sites are village/rural pubs, greater than 1,000 sq ft. The brand manager in charge of the concept at Pub Enterprises is Jim Stevens

Eight pubs have been on trial for the brand, with recent openings in Enfield, North London; Brentwood, Essex; Fleet, Hampshire; and Charnock, Lancashire.

Pub Enterprises is believed to be concentrating its branded efforts this year on Village Inn and the James H Porter chain of 45 suburban community pubs. Its other brands include Coopers Kitchen, Baroque and Football Crazy.
