Botanic Inns managing director Stephen Magorrian and Namita Panjabi. co-founder of Indian restaurant operator Masala World, have both received OBEs in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. Magorrian won the award for “services to the hospitality industry and to the community in Northern Ireland”. Earlier this year Botanic Inns, which operates 16 outlets, was named 73rd in the Sunday Times list of the UK’s top 100 companies to work for. Panjabi won her OBE for “services to the hospitality industry”. Her company operates three upmarkets Indian restaurants in London as well as the mid-market Masala Zone concept. Others industry figures to be recognised in the awards include Michael Roberts, chairman of English Wine Producers, who has been awarded an MBE for “services to the drinks industry”. OBEs were also given to renowned sommerlier Gerard Baset for “services to the hospitality industry” and to Tamara Ingram, chair of tourism body Visit London, for “services to the tourism industry”.
