Bar operator Dominic Clancy has secured the former Amba site in Hale village, Cheshire, and plans to transform it into an American-themed bar and restaurant with a £400,000 refurbishment.

The site will re-open under the name Stockyard on 27 February.

Son of Aidan Clancy, co-founder of Hale Leisure - which brought Jabez Clegg, Barca, Prague V, Reform and Dry Bar amongst others to Manchester – Dominic Clancy owns and manages Morley Cheeks in Chorlton.

Leisure specialist Jenics negotiated a new 25-year lease on the 3,500 sq ft property, as an off market deal. Jenics also advised Aidan Clancy at Hale Leisure last year on the sale of Manchester student bar Jabez Clegg for over £3m.

Clancy said: “This is a brand new concept and has been two years in the making. We want to create a nice comfortable bar where you can leisurely sit with friends. It will be heavily influenced by the Deep South of America and there will be a lot of craft beers, cocktails with a bourbon influence, burgers, hot dogs, ribs, steaks and lobster, all good quality but at an affordable price. We’re also bringing back Boddingtons beer, which we feel is due a revival.”

He added: “Four-fifths of the ground floor will be given over to a bar area that will seat 65 people plus standing areas, whilst the back fifth and downstairs will comprise a 64 seat restaurant area. We’ve imported an authentic food smoker from the States, there will be oak flooring throughout, Canadian maple bar top, exposed brickwork and vintage shutters. Hale is crying out for somewhere like this.”

Jeremy Collins at Jenics said: “Amba traded successfully for 12 years and this is an established location. Dominic has the necessary track record and skills to provide an exciting new offer to this part of South Manchester.”
