Charles Wells, the brewer and pub operator, is trialling a value food package for its tenanted pubs that currently have no food offer.

The package, described as a “totally integrated and complete food solution”, includes equipment, point of sale and on-going support. The “British classics” menu includes dishes for £4.95 including burger & chips, sausage & mash, chicken tikka masala, chilli con carne & rice, steak & kidney pudding, vegetable curry and vegetable lasagne.

The format is being trialled in three pubs and Charles Wells is looking for another seven to join the trial this year, according to Eagle Star, the company’s magazine for its licensees. Charles Wells is working on the package with 3663.

Christine Crofts, head of sales and marketing at Charles Wells Pub Company, is quoted in Eagle Star saying: “Longer opening hours, all-day food sales, value for money food, and welcoming families are all contributing to the growing popularity of pub meals.

“The UK pub food market continues to thrive, with UK pubs now serving one billion meals per year. According to him! research, many pubs are still not maximising the opportunity presented by food sales.”
