Camden Town Brewery is to bring the running of the Horseshoe pub in Hampstead in house as it officially becomes a Living Wage employer.

Camden Town’s founder Jasper Cuppaidge runs the pub but has decided that as the brewery grows it makes sense to combine the two operations.

Brewing and development director Alex Troncoso told M&C Report that as a result the pub would be more obviously branded as being affiliated with the brewery.

Asked whether the company was seeking more pubs, he said: “We’re not looking to turn ourselves into a pub company because we’ve got plenty of other stuff going on but if a few good sites came up we would certainly look at that.”

Troncoso said the company had started offering the living wage earlier this year and that around 25% of the 50-strong staff are now covered.

He said: “It has cost us a bit more, of course but it’s the right thing to do and we think it makes us competitive in the recruitment market. Job loyalty isn’t all about money but we’d be kidding ourselves if we tried to pretend it wasn’t a part of it. Hopefully this will help us recruit the best people and encourage people to stay with us.”
