Tony Brookes, former managing director of pub group Head of Steam that was sold to Camerons earlier this month, has told M&C Report he will work with the brewer for 12 months to help integrate the pubs.

Brookes, who will work as a consultant for Camerons for three days a week from 2014, said he will examine the rest of the c75-strong estate “to see which would be appropriate for a Head of Steam-type operation”.

His plan is to retire after that point. Brookes told M&C Report: “I’m 65. I’ve paid my dues. I’ve been in this business for 34 years and I’m happy with what we have created.”

The deal with Camerons does not include the Head of Steam site in Liverpool. “Camerons don’t trade in the north west at all so they were not interested in the Liverpool pub being part of the deal,” said Brookes.

The pub is being run by a tenant.
