Luminar, Britain's biggest late-night venue operator, looks set to begin its casino-opening programme in Leeds, according to Douglas Jack, an analyst at Panmure Gordon. The late-licence specialist is likely to sell the freehold of its Majestyk nightclub on a sale-and-lease-back basis, Jack suggested. The money from this would then be used to turn the Majestyk into a casino. Other cities that look likely to see one of Luminar's possible 27 casino developments include Newcastle, Bristol, Portsmouth and York. Luminar also has a prime 15-acre site in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire which could be ideal for a large casino.
