Piergiorgio Lo Greco has stepped down as chief executive of La Bottega, the Pembroke VCT-backed Italian deli and café concept, MCA understands.

Lo Greco had led the £5m management buyout of the six-strong group by Pembroke, whose investors include Sir Charles Dunstone and Lord Wolfson, in August 2013.

Pembroke made an initial investment of £960k in new equity in the business and provided £1m of mezzanine debt.

At the time, it said it was looking to open up to 10 further sites in London while also improving its product offering and considering delivery for the home dining market.

Matt Hermer, the founder of Ignite Group, the owner of the Bumpkin, Eclipse and Boujis brands, stepped down as chairman of the business in October 2015.

The chain was founded in Chelsea in 2005 by husband and wife Bepi and Roberta Augustin.
