The Alchemist is to open its first international site next year after confirming plans to open in Potsdamer Platz in Berlin.

The business has been looking to make the move to an international location for several years and had set it sights on Berlin due to its strong cultural identity and 24-hour night life.

Potsdamer Platz is a new urban area compromised of Berliners, office workers and tourists. Once complete, the development will include a diverse mix of retail, dining and entertainment.

The 5,887 sq ft venue Alchemist Berlin venue will open in spring 2023. It will feature 212 covers internally and a further 50 external covers.

In keeping with the look and feel of The Alchemist sites, it will feature futuristic, divine influences from astrology and the cosmos, with celestial lighting installations that act as structural statements in the daytime and illuminate the bar at night, it said.

Commenting on its first opening outside the UK, Simon Potts, CEO, The Alchemist, said: “This is a very exciting step for The Alchemist, into the vibrant city of Berlin. We’ve been working on this venture for nearly three years and each time we come to visit, we get more excited about the energy and the environment around us.

“We love the pace of the city, both relaxed and somehow always on the go and believe our concept will fit in brilliantly with the wider culture and community in Berlin. We’re delighted to be a small part of the reimagining of The Playce at Potsdamer Platz, and will be working hard to create an inclusive, engaging and experiential venue – where all are welcome.”
