Punch Taverns founder Hugh Osmond has set up a new company called Sun Capital Partners to look for new acquisitions.
He has teamed up with Alan McIntosh and recruited several executives who worked with them on previous deals.
Osmond says Sun will focus on large deals of £500m or more and aims to complete up to four every year.
If needs be, he adds, Sun will be "very hostile".
