MOD Pizza, the fast casual artisan pizza concept backed by Sir Charles Dunstone, will open its second site in the UK in Brighton, as it looks to have open five units by the end of 2016, MCA has learnt.

The company, which will officially open its first UK site today in Leeds at the Cardigan Fields scheme, has secured an 83-cover site in Brighton Marina for an opening this August as it looks to test the concept both in terms of geography and trading location, for example high street versus shopping scheme.

At the same time, the group, which says it already has an impressive pipeline for 2017 in place, has appointed Anome Oyetey, formerly head of procurement at Domino’s Pizza as its new supply chain director.

Oyetey joins MOD after over eights years at Domino’s, including five as its head of purchasing.

MOD, which was founded by Scott and Ally Svenson, said it had chosen Brighton as its second location due to its “vibrant culinary culture and eclectic community”.

Dunstone said: “Brighton is one of the most community driven cities in the UK and we think that matches perfectly with MOD’s care and community ethos. We’re not just talking about pizza coming to Brighton, we’re talking about a fresh way of thinking.”

“The spirit and energy of Brighton is a perfect match for MOD’s people-centric culture that celebrates individuality and self-expression. MOD prides itself on being a force for good in the lives of our team and the communities in which we operate, and we look forward to spreading some MODness in Brighton starting this summer,” said Scott Svenson.

The group’s signature 11-inch pizzas, which are made on demand and come with a variety of free toppings choices, will be priced at £7.47 in the regions and £7.87 in London.

The John Nelson-led concept expects to take on average seven minutes from when the consumer orders to delivery of their pizza. The brand will also highlight the companies made on demand salads and “hand spun” milkshakes.
