The British Beer and Pub Association has said that it expects its new code of practice to be ready within a month. The new code, which expands on the group’s current recommendations, calls to restrict drink offers to "standard reasonable promotion activity". Promotions that allow customers to pay an entrance fee and then drink for free are unacceptable, as are offers of large quantities of free drinks, such as women being allowed to drink for nothing or free vodka between 9pm and 10pm. The DCMS is in discussions with the drinks industry and the Home Office about how the code of practice could be adopted by local authorities.
