Supermarket chain Sainsbury's has been lambasted for slashing the price of cider to just 26p a pint. The "Basics" promotion came just three days after three teenagers drunk on cider and lager were convicted of kicking a man to death. Liberal Democrat MP John Pugh said it was "quite unacceptable" and Professor Ian Gilmore, president of the Royal College of Physicians, said supermarkets should not sell alcohol at or below cost-price.
