Tossed, the healthy food to go concept, has appointed James Halsall formerly of Yum! Brands and Peach Pub Company, as its new operations director.

Halsall joins the 24-strong group, which crowdfunded £1.3m last year, after over three years with Yum! where he was a multi-site operations manager. Previous to that he worked as general manager for Whitbread and as an operations and special projects manager at Peach.

He joins Tossed after it recently opened sites in Coleman Street and Upper Thames Street.

The Coleman Street site was Europe’s first cashless food-to-go outlet and is fitted with self-service kiosks instead of manned tills. It will take payment by credit or debit card, contactless and Apple Pay instead of cash.

The company, which has an international site in Dubai, said the move was part of a wider plan to embrace technology and ultimately remove paper from its shops.
