Average spend in December 2019 grew year on year at breakfast (5%), lunch (5%) and dinner (10%), MCA’s Eating Out Panel shows.

The share of adults eating out in December 2019 marginally declined by 0.1 percentage point (pp).

Breakfast increased its daypart share by 1.8pp, at the expense of lunch, and frequency increased by 10% to 2.8 breakfast occasions per month.

Coffee shops and cafés lost share at breakfast and lunch, while fast food outlets have seen an increase in share at these day-parts, but a decrease in share at dinner.

Pub restaurants have seen growth at breakfast and dinner since last year, up 2pp at both day-parts.

The Eating Out Panel is a continuous survey based on 6,000 online interviews per month.
