CityMunch, a new app that allows diners to claim real-time discounts off of their restaurant bill, has launched in London.

In trial for the last three months, CityMunch has already signed up more than 100 restaurants across the city and received more than 1,800 user downloads.

The company said that all new restaurants are given unlimited free usage for three months, 30 covers free every month after that and only pay 50p for each further cover.

Founder Robert Lynch said: “Our vision is to bring a new kind of price flexibility to the restaurant industry. Hotel rooms, air fares and taxi rides are all priced dynamically, and while restaurants operate very differently they face the same underlying problem of peaky demand and rigid supply.

“CityMunch also allows restaurants to judge whether a day is going to be slow and react instantly, which before now has been near impossible unless you have someone who can go and actively recruit diners. CityMunch gives restaurants access to a broader market of customers looking to eat on the spur of the moment. Attracting customers during down-times makes it easier to cover London’s high overheads, keeping great places open”.
