US craft beer exports in 2014 rocketed by 35.7%, with the UK the third fastest-growing market, according to new figures.

The Brewers Association - the trade association representing small and independent American brewers - said global exports rose to 383,422 barrels worth $99.7m (£67.3m) in 2014.

Growth was strong in all major markets with Canada +32.2%, Western Europe +36.6%, Asia Pacific (excluding Japan) +38.1%, Japan +31.7% and Brazil +63.9%. By comparison, US craft beer exports totalled just $2.9m (£1.9m) in 2004.

Exports to the UK continue to grow in 2014 with the UK market accounting for a 10.8% share, up from 7.8% in 2013. The UK remains the third largest market behind Canada (53%) and Sweden (12%), and was the third fastest-growing market in 2014, behind Brazil and South Korea.

Bob Pease, chief executive at the Brewers Association, said: “The American craft beer scene is one of the most dynamic in the world. These figures bear out the growing success of craft brewers in spurring international interest in innovative and flavourful beers that are delivered to consumers as freshly as possible.”
