The tequila brand Gran Centanario has paid an undisclosed sum to the producers of a Broadway play for product placement.
The script of Neil Simon's musical show Sweet Charity has been slightly altered to name the brand during a scene where a waiter offers a customer a drink. In another scene, the brand's logo is stamped on crates used during a dance sequence.
The move has sparked fears that intrusive advertising will compromise the integrity of stage productions.
