The Portman Group has banned a ready-made version of the cocktail 'Sex on the Beach' for infringing rules linking alcoholic drinks to sexual prowess. But while bars have been asked to stop selling the drink, made by the Muse brand, they can still make it on-site and it sell under its traditional name. This is because the group's code only applies to pre-packaged drinks and not to cocktails mixed to order by a barman. Jean Coussins, Portman Group chief executive, said: "It is important for alcoholic drinks not to linked to sexual success or appeal to under 18s and these rulings are a good example of the code working effectively." Nigel McNally, sales and marketing director for Muse said: "It seems to make a mockery of the ruling if retailers continue to market their own Sex on the Beach cocktail." Charles Wells, which manufactures the drink, thought that the Portman Group "may have heralded the demise of one of the country's favourite cocktails".
