Norfolk is to be home to a new whisky distillery, reports The Scotsman. According to the newspaper, one Andrew Nelstrop is investing £1m in the Norfolk Whisky Company, from which he hopes to turn out 100,000 bottles annually. While it will be made similarly to tipple from Scotland, its English origin means that it cannot legally be marketed as Scotch. Nelstrop told The Scotsman: "We will be distilling along traditional Scottish lines and the building will be inspired by the old Scottish malting houses with their double pagoda roof," he said. He added: “We will also be looking for someone with expertise in a Scottish distillery." The distillery is the third of a recent spate of whisky makers launching south of the border. Last year, the Welsh Whisky Company in Penderyn became Wales' first distillery, while Cornwall's St Austell Brewery has teamed up with Cornwall Cyder Farm to begin selling a currently maturing whisky batch in eight years' time.
