Diageo has decided to discontinue Baileys Glide after disappointing sales. According to figures from AC Nielsen, sales of the beverage fell from £9.2m to £6.5m for the quarter ending March 2005, a drop of 29%. The drink was intended to cash in on Baileys impressive 60% share of the cream liqueur market, offering a lower alcohol alternative for special occasions. Diageo, however, insists that Baileys Glide was merely being tested for two years before a global launch, and that the product failed to meet "benchmarks" required before a more extensive worldwide rollout. Such tests were also underway in Australia and New Zealand, the company said.
