Wimpy, the quick service burger chain, plans to rebrand all of its UK restaurants with a new US-style diner look. The company trialled the revamp at 12 sites across the UK last year and will rollout the changes to all of its 170 outlets. Famous Brands, the South African fast food company that acquired a 75% stake in Wimpy in 2007, said that the aim was to restore the chain to its “former iconic status”. As part of the new look, the old yellow and red colours will be replaced with a red logo on a silver background and a new menu will include teacakes, steak dishes and ice-cream sundaes. The group said that each franchise owner would be required to invest in the rebranding, which would impact the speed of the rollout. The development follows Burger King's recent announcement that it wants its franchisees to adopt a new look at its restaurants in the UK - and also comes after the success of a McDonald's revamp which should be completed by 2010.
