Wagamama, the Duke Street Capital-backed chain, is to open a flagship restaurant in Gatwick’s North Terminal next summer.

The decision was made after 33% of passengers polled by Gatwick said Wagamama was the brand they would like to see in the airport.

The restaurant will be open 365 days with a separate take-away counter, a  pre-order service and fast payment app for passengers and tools with secure storage built-in for hand luggage

Charlotte Christiansen, business development manager for catering at Gatwick, said: “We are delighted that the innovative Wagamama brand will be opening a flagship restaurant at Gatwick next summer. Wagamama is a world-renowned restaurant and is hugely popular with our passengers and its extensive menu is perfectly matched to airport dining as it is quick, fresh and sumptuous. A third of our passengers told us they would like to see a Wagamama at Gatwick so we have acted on this.”

Simon Cope, global brand director of Wagamama, said: “We are thrilled to be opening this flagship restaurant at Gatwick airport. Airports are a natural location for us, as they address our core target customer who wants delicious, freshly cooked food, served quickly for convenience. Our unique design and fresh pan-asian cooking will stand out in offering Gatwick’s passengers a first class airport experience.”
