Brighton-based vegan pizza concept Purezza has announced global expansion plans after securing £2.4m in funding.

MVK Group and Veg Capital were among multiple investors in the funding drive, which included investors based in the Middle East, USA, Europe and Asia.

The brand currently has four restaurants – in Brighton, Hove, Bristol and London – and has said it will use the investment to open branches abroad and develop a retail line of “mozzarella 2.0” – a plant-based alternative.

“Vegan cheese is the holy grail for the plant-based movement, and the team at Purezza have developed the most realistic alternative to dairy-based mozzarella we have tried,” said Veg Capital managing director Matthew Glover. “Our investment will help the Purezza team accelerate their move into the retail sector.”

Manish Karani, CEO of MVK Group added: “Purezza has proven to be one of the pioneers in the vegan food industry.

“We are proud to be working with them in becoming one of the leading restaurant and retail brands across the world.”
