The Restaurant Group-owned brand Chiquito has filed a notice of its intention to appoint administrators, suggesting it may be the first big restaurant group to collapse because of coronavirus, the Times reports.

Following a review of the performance of its divisions, TRG has said that both Chiquito and its London pub business Food & Fuel would both achieve negative earnings this year.

The group has appointed RSM as administrators to Food & Fuel and filed a notice of its intention to do the same with Chiquito Limited, which owns 61 Chiquito outlets (a further 20 would be unaffected).

It is suggested that approximately 1,500 jobs would be put at risk as a result of the closure.
