Fast-casual burrito brand Tortilla is to open a site at the Chessington World of Adventures Resort, as part of a new partnership with Merlin Entertainments.

Located in Mexicana Land, the site will be centrally run and staffed by Tortilla employees.

Richard Morris, managing director, Tortilla, told MCA the business had entered into a one-site trial with Merlin, with the hope that if successful it would enable the brand to open in other Merlin parks.

He said there had been no specific time frame set for the trial but it would look to assess the Chessington site after 12-month period in order to determine its success.

Morris said the business had adapted its operating model in order to suit the high-volume environment at the theme park.

“We’ve streamlined the menu and re-positioned the servery to be able to serve more burritos per minute than ever,” said Morris. “This is a new model for us and if successful, we hope to continue opening Tortilla’s of this format in more Merlin locations as well as other high-throughput locations with SSP.”

The business has several other sites opening this summer, including Tortilla’s in Exeter (High St), Edinburgh (St James) and Windsor (Peascod St).

Tortilla Chessington opens on 17 May.
