Tibits, the Swiss vegetarian restaurant and takeaway concept, is again eyeing expansion in the UK, eight years after its first launched here, MCA understands.
The company, which operates eight sites in Switzerland and one in London’s Mayfair, is in talks to open a restaurant in Southwark Street, near Borough Market.
It previously also operates a site in Westfield London in Shepherd’s Bush before closing it in 2009.
The group made its debut in the UK in 2008 in Heddon Street.
The group, which has existing outlets in Basel, Bern, Winterthur and Zurich, was founded by three brothers – Christian, Daniel and Reto Frei – in 1999, who decided to launch the concept after winning a business plan competition organised by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and McKinsey, the professional services group.
The trio teamed up with existing restaurant entrepreneurs Rolf and Marielle Hiltl, owners of the Hiltl Restaurant – one of Europe’s oldest eateries, founded in 1898.
Customers can eat in or take out and the food is priced according to weight.
