The Oystermen, the catering and pop-up business known for its residency at The Sampler wine merchants in South Kensington, is set to open its first permanent restaurant in Covent Garden.

Showcasing seafood from across the British Isles, The Oystermen Seafood Bar & Kitchen in Henrietta Street will serve oysters freshly-shucked, buffalo-barbecued or Cajun-battered, as well as mussels, south coast crabs and shellfish platters for sharing.

An all-day menu will feature house-cured, smoked and pickled fish such as whisky and oak smoked trout, smoked mackerel and horseradish pate, and daily fresh fish specials.

Drinks will include The Oystermen’s own oyster stout brewed with Canopy Beer Co, craft beer and wine.

A ‘Bubbles ‘n’ Oysters Happy Hour’ deal between 3pm-5pm everyday offers six fresh oysters and a glass of Crémant du Bourgogne fizz for £10 only.

The concept was born in 2014, when hospitality professionals and friends Matt Lovell and Rob Hampton shucked oysters together for guests at Matt’s wedding.

Hampton said: “The feedback and footfall at our events, and most notably our residency in ‘South Kensington-on–Sea’ has given us the extra confidence in being able to translate our vision into reality.

“As a team, we are more than excited to take the brand and business to the next level and relish the opportunity to continue growing and developing in such a strong market.”

Emma Flather at DCL acted on the Henrietta Street deal.
