Rohit Chugh, the former managing director of the Cinnamon Club and founding shareholder of Tortilla, is to open Chai Ki, a sister site to his street food –influenced concept, Roti Chai, at Canary Wharf.

The site in Crossrail Place is only part open, with its casual bar & kitchen operation, Toddy Shop, currently trading and a full opening – a dining room is to come- set for a few weeks time.

The new venue is open every day for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner & drinks. It also offers its breakfast buns, masala chai and Monsoon Malabar coffee available to take away.

Chugh told M&C Report: “The inspiration for the Toddy Shop menu for me is coastal drinking dens and have some interesting options lined up for our drinks list - will be creating our own beer infusions on site. There are one or two dishes that guests will recognise from Roti Chai’s Street Kitchen but for the most part it is a brand new menu which seems to have gone down well at our trials.

“I have no plans for a roll out of Roti Chai or Chai Ki and like Roti Chai we are hoping that Chai Ki will become a destination restaurant.”

Chugh opened Roti Chai in Portman South Mews in 2011. It features food inspired by Chugh’s trips back to see family and friends in north India, with an average spend per head between £10 to £15.
