Rick Stein Restaurants is launching a flexible careers scheme across its estate to tackle the staffing crisis in the industry.

The new initiative welcomes applicants regardless of age and experience to join the Rick Stein team without any commitment to hours or shifts worked. Applicants can work as little as one shift per week in a range of roles, including chefs, hosts, retail assistants, receptionists, waitstaff, and porters.

Part-time and flexible team members will receive the same benefits, including service charge, paid holiday, and a 50% discount in restaurants.

The family-run business runs seven restaurants, hotel accommodation, and a range of sites including a café, bar, coffee shop, pub, fish and chip shop, and deli. It aims to combat staff shortages ahead of the busy summer season by attracting those looking for flexible work, including students, under sixteens, career-changers, and ex-hospitality professionals.

Co-founder Jill Stein commented: “We know that hospitality is a hugely rewarding career, and we welcome people from all walks of life to experience that, without personal circumstances getting in the way.”

“I am so proud that we’re broadening our horizons, moving with the times and offering people the chance to join our team on a basis that works for them. Welfare is so important to us, and we understand that for some people a day or two a week is all that’s needed, so we’re ready to offer that with some amazing roles across the restaurants and shops.”
