PizzaExpress, the Hony Capital-backed group, has appointed Amanda Royston, formerly of Byron, as its new marketing director, MCA has learnt.

Royston, who stepped down from Byron after a year and a half in June, was previously head of marketing at Westfield and marketing director at Starbucks UK & Ireland.

At the same time, MCA understands that Andrew Woodward, who joined the business as its first customer director earlier this year, has left the company.

Woodward has joined the company from MasterCard where he headed up its loyalty programme, both in Europe and the US, before which he was marketing director at John Lewis.

In 1998 he joined the Austin Reed Group as marketing & business development director, having already held various positions at J Walter Thompson and McKinsey & Co.

At PizzaExpress he was responsible for trading, commercial partnerships and promotions, menu development, restaurant design, customer experience, insight, marketing and digital platforms.

In August, Byron appointed Paul Coppin as its new marketing director.

Coppin was head of marketing at Red Bull for six years.
