Nando’s has opened a second site within a Tesco supermarket, as it looks to expand its presence in new locations.

The new external facing site has just opened at the superstore in Coventry’s Arena Park Shopping Centre and follows the brand’s first restaurant opening within the supermarket’s footprint in Wembley last December.

The site was designed by interior design and architecture consultancy Harrison, which has worked with Nando’s on 321 sites worldwide.

A spokesperson for Nando’s told MCA that Nando’s was very proud of the location and the fit out. While expansion within supermarkets isn’t necessarily a key focus for future expansion, “all locations are evaluated on their individual merits and the Tesco opportunity in Coventry is an excellent one”.

“It fits in with our other convenient high footfall locations such as retail and leisure parks,” it added.

The unit features a double height space at the front of the restaurant, with a ceiling inspired by rainfall and suspended tube lighting in earthy tones to represent the scorched earth in Africa.

Dean Concannon, design director at Harrison, commented: “Nando’s is an ongoing success story as the brand constantly evolves its design, F&B offering, marketing and branding.

“It always questions itself and is privately owned by people who care very much about design and what impact it can have on people’s lives. A brand that constantly evolves and has a refurbishment programme of around 7 years will never die, it just rejuvenates itself.”
